BATTLEFIELD has been releasing new updates and versions of the game for almost 20 years.

The game allows players to conquer and defend territories while trying to take over others using military jets and various war machines.

Battlefield Games Release Order

The game was first released in 2002 and the release of Battlefield V in 2019 has sold 7.3 million copies of the game.

Its main competitor in the gaming industry must be Call of Duty, as Battlefield sometimes struggled to keep players happy with the release of new versions.

Let’s see what the creators at EA have been up to over the years.

Battlefield 1942

Platform: PC

Battlefield 1942 was first released on September 10, 2002 and had two expansions: The Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII.

A player can also choose which soldier he wants to serve as an Assault, Medic, Anti-Tank, Scout or Engineer.

Battlefield Vietnam

Platform: PC

Battlefield Vietnam was released on March 14, 2004.

It was similar to the first version but enabled passengers to fire from the sides of the vehicles and also air-lift them into battle.

They introduced some new military vehicles and prototype weapons for this version, and during the game, one can listen to a licensed soundtrack with songs from Vietnam-based films.

Battlefield 2

Platform: PC

Battlefield 2 was released on June 21, 2005.

It is set in the 21st century and it creates a fictional world war between the United States and Europe against China combined with a fictional Middle East alliance.

Players are given 15 maps – each map has three variations depending on the number of players.

More features have been added to handle large-scale combat and it allows players to interact with each other.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat

Platforms: PS2, Xbox, Xbox360

Released on October 24, 2005, it was the first version to be available on gaming consoles.

The war created in this version sees NATO and China fighting in Kazakhstan.

It consisted of victory-the-flag and 24-player battles with 12 soldiers per team.

Battlefield 2142

Platform: PC

This version was released on October 17, 2006, and later a version called Northern Strike was also made available.

Battlefield 2142 created the Cold War, which should not be confused with the actual war that lasted from 1947 to 1991.

This fictional Cold War takes place during the Ice Age from 2139 to 2145, and the game features more sci-fi elements and fictional weapons.

There is a conflict between the Pan Asian Alliance and the European Union.

The creators created a multiplayer mode called Titan in which players have Anti-Titan missiles to destroy enemy Titan artillery.

Northern Strike included an Assault Line mode that was similar to the Victory mode.

Battlefield: Bad Company

Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Battlefield: Bad Company was released on June 23, 2008 and is considered one of the fan favorites.

B-Company is a group of troublemakers and it revolves around the life of Private Preston Marlowe who forms part of such a group.

The single-player version is all about trying to find the treasure while the multiplayer mode requires users to find gold crates placed in different locations with different strategies.

It is set during WW2 and runs until the 21st century when new versions of it come out.

battlefield hero

Platform: PC

Released on June 25, 2009, it was the first game in the EA Play 4 Free series and featured an alternate timeline similar to WW2.

For the first time, it also featured a third-person shooter view and had very unique graphics compared to other games in the franchise.

This game can be compared to Fortnite.

An unbalanced pay-to-win system ruined the game and forced it to shut down in 2015.

Battlefield 1943

Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

The game, released on July 8, 2009, follows Battlefield 1942, the first version of the game.

It has no single-player story and a multiplayer mode with only three maps.

If someone enters Air Superiority Mode, they will gain access to the fourth map.

It included features such as unlimited ammo and health recovery over time.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Bad Company 2 was released on March 2, 2010 and repeated the timeline created in the first Bad Company.

It has a more intense single-player mode but still retains some elements of the first version created.

It is set in WW2, when B-Company is searching for some of their team who are trapped behind enemy lines.

Battlefield 3

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Released on October 25, 2011, Battlefield 3 introduces the 2014 war and follows the events of the war in Battlefield 2.

On PC, it can support up to 64 players to play against each other while the single-player mode includes some cooperative missions.

It introduces features such as the upgraded Frostbite 2.0 engine and destruction and lighting elements.

Battlefield 4

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Released on October 29, 2013, Battlefield 4 includes a 2020 war that carries over from the previous version.

The destruction is greater than ever thanks to the upgrade in Frostbite 3 while the Commander mode in multiplayer has also made a return.

Players can get in the way of their opponents by changing the map.

It had many extended backs such as Final Stand, China Rising and Night Operations.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One

Unlike the other games, this one was developed by Visceral Games instead of EA and does not follow a war timeline.

Instead, Battlefield Hardline – released on March 17, 2015 – shows the police fighting against criminals in the United States.

It runs from 2012 to 2016 and the single-player mode will enable the user to arrest robbers while the multiplayer mode offers opportunities to steal.

Battlefield 1

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Battlefield 1 – released on October 21, 2016 – is considered one of the best games in the franchise, which spans the First World War and the Interwar period.

The use of poison gas and flamethrowers makes it a classic depiction of WW1, while the use of horses is one of the things that makes it most unique.

It features one of the best single-player modes as it enables you to live the story of different characters throughout the war.

Battlefield V

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Released on November 20, 2018, Battlefield V revisits WW2 and includes many of the same features as Battlefield 1.

It enables players to upgrade their weapons and vehicles.
