Battle of Kudzu
Boogs Head was in his computer game when the batteries died.
“Nani, can I use your phone?”
He had been playing for a few hours since he came to our house.
“Why don’t you look outside?” My good-natured husband said he was taking us to Terre Haute for dinner. “You never know what you’ll see.”
“Yes, that’s right,” said the boogie, frustrated, leaning his head against the van’s window. “I’ll just take a nap.” He muttered. Boredom is not something that bogs do well.
“Hey, boogs, do you know about war?” I asked as my husband looked at me curiously.
“In Ukraine, yes.”
I was not surprised by his answer; Boogs is a very clever boy.
“Well, it’s happening; I’m glad you’re aware of the world, “I said.” Your husband is looking at me even harder, trying to figure out where I’m going in this conversation. “But I didn’t mean that. I mean, there’s a war going on outside your window.
Now my attention was on Boogs and Poppy (what Boogs calls my husband.)
I asked Boogs if he knew what aggression was. He didn’t, so he asked Poppy.
“Do you know what she’s talking about?” He asked my husband, who explained that when a person, animal or plant invades another’s place.
Both Boogie and Poppy asked me, “Are you okay?”
I tend not to have the right mind sometimes … lol
I had my faculty that day.
“Well, if you look out that window, boogs. You see the biggest battle in America right now, ”I smiled as I looked out the window. “And we don’t win the war.”
I explained that most of the trees have been attacked by Kudzu.
Kudzu was hurting the ecosystem in the area. And nothing – nothing – it will twist life and stop all sunlight from hogging. He was watching the biological war as he walked down the street. (Take that zombie video game against plants.) On the edge of the forest, outside our van, and on the side of the road was being attacked.
Boogs wanted to know more.
Since its inception in 1876, Kudzu has been engulfing the United States. The south has its epicenter, the size of about 50,000 baseball fields per year, covering approximately 3,000,000 acres. Kudzu can grow about 60 feet in one season, about one foot per day. It doesn’t sound like much, but I didn’t tell him that part.
It’s not very interesting or scary to see the real Godzilla and find that he walks only one foot a day! Back to video games.
“Can you cut it?” Bugs asked while trying to show the plant.
“Yes,” I said. “But you have to remove the Kudzu trees because they start to grow again and grow again.”
“Like a zombie !!” Boogs was now fully involved in the story, and so was Poppy, who agreed with me.
“Can you eat that?” Boogs asked, now turning to his seat to find Kudzula.
Apparently, yes, but I don’t think a lot of people do.
“Can they plant in the desert to help feed people?” Boogies said, which made Poppy and me very proud.
The three of us talked about Kudzu invading the United States for more than 150 years, and it was still going on.
On our drive the bogs found a humble kudzu plant.
“How do you kill it, Kudju, Nani?” Poppy? “
I let the poppy go about the goats, but Poppy said it might take a Godzilla-shaped goat to do it.
“Gotzilla,” Boogs laughed, then asked a serious question. “How did he get here? So who brought him here?”
“Like all the things human beings deal with, Kudzhu was brought to the United States with the best of intentions,” I told him about what people thought Kudzhu would help to clear the dust, but it didn’t work out as intended.
“The best plan for rats and men.”
No matter how carefully you plan for something, misfortune or accident can lead to light or big destruction. It refers to people’s careful planning which can go wrong for a number of reasons.
This is especially true in the world in which we live. Video games were initially a prize. He was back when I played pong with my sister.
Now video games are a babysitter, a break from entertainment and parenting (who cares if a child sits for hours and stares at the screen without personal interaction).
However, with the help of a dead battery and the story of the 150-year-old Kudzu invasion of the United States, the Bugs did not need video games to see the world differently. And maybe he learned a little along the way.
