Big Six fixtures: Man City face Chelsea in the semi-finals for a possible title, while Eric Ten Hague faces Jurgen Klopp in his third Man United game against Liverpool.
- The Premier League fixtures calendar for the 2022-23 season has been unveiled
- Chelsea welcomed Tottenham to Stamford Bridge just the second weekend
- Eric Ten Hague’s first major Test is in his third Man United game against Liverpool.
- Both the North London and Manchester derby matches are on the same day
- Manchester City’s second win against Chelsea on the final day could be decisive
The big six in the Premier League are gearing up for battle again in the 2022-23 season as they prepare to fight for the Champions League spots and the biggest prize of them all – the league title.
Manchester City won the back-to-back championship after Liverpool breathed a sigh of relief in the final campaign and the pair are expected to battle it out for the crown once again after both sides signed big names – with Erling Holland Etihad and Darwin Nunez joining Anfield.
Chelsea’s title bid, meanwhile, fell short before the actual start as the Blues finished third in a turbulent, troubled season – as Tottenham moved Arsenal to that prestigious fourth spot.
The big sixes won’t take long to stand up to each other and fans can only wait for the big London derby on the weekend of the second Premier League, on 13 August Chelsea will host rivals Tottenham with Antonio Conte returning. Finding the outline of his title ambitions on his east side.
But Tuchel will be hungry to show his Chelsea side are ready to bounce back – and new owner Todd Bohli is hoping for market support after he finally bought the club from Roman Abramovich to establish a new era.
The first ‘Big Six’ match of the season between Chelsea and Tottenham in the second weekend
Eric Ten Hague’s third Man United game is a big game against Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp (R).
Outside of the first four of last season, Arsenal had to settle for Europa League football, with Man United only qualifying for the Conference League. The two clubs play each other at Old Trafford in September – but before that, new United boss Eric Ten Hague faces a big test of his credentials as he faces Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Ten Hague’s men have been linked to a number of big names – such as Frankie de Jong – and he is hopeful that his struggling outfit will have more depth until the Reds come down at Old Trafford on August 20. He will be aware that in last year’s match, United had beaten their rivals 5-0 at home.
The Spurs made another difficult journey to Etihad to play Man City in September, with Chelsea hosting Liverpool next weekend.
The first North London derby will take place on 1 October, after Spurs beat Arsenal in the first four
The Manchester derby between United and City will come on the same day in the big weekend
Our first North London derby of the season arrives on October 1 – the same weekend of the first Manchester derby which will have a football blockbuster Saturday.
The same month offers seven big six matches, including the first time Liverpool and Manchester City will meet for the title statement at Anfield on 15 October, followed by Arsenal host City ahead of Man United host Tottenham the next day in midweek action.
The last two major matches before the start of the World Cup on November 5 will be Chelsea v Arsenal and Tottenham v Liverpool, before the first major championship match between Chelsea and Man City after the tournament ends on the second day of 2023.
Manchester City and Liverpool will take to the field on October 15 and both sides have indicated they will take their championship to the challenge.
After a short break for the FA Cup, we have another blockbuster derby weekend, with the North London derby and the Manchester derby again on the same day, January 14th.
Tottenham have two matches against big sixes in February – both at home. The first match will be against Man City on the 4th and then against Chelsea on the 25th.
There’s a Big Six match in March and it’s a big match – Liverpool have welcomed Manchester United to Anfield on the 4th – and then it all comes to a head in April.
With the potentially big clash between Man City vs Liverpool in April we have no less than seven matches between the big parties, which are expected to languish till the last day, so expect fireworks here – but who will make it? Fool on April 1st?
But on the final day, City will have to face a decisive test against Chelsea to decide the title.
Liverpool’s crucial Test against City is next weekend with a home clash against Arsenal, and Man United will have to face a definite month when they play Chelsea at Old Trafford on 22 April, three days after the Spurs.
Liverpool and City will have their skills tested when they face Tottenham and Arsenal at the end of the month, respectively – but Pep Guardiola will have men who will be at a disadvantage as the season draws to a close.
City have a home clash against Chelsea in the semi-finals – May 20 – Liverpool have a win-win home game against Aston Villa on the same day – so a slip-up against the Blues could swing the championship to Liverpool’s side.
